I'm officially old. My wife is having to talk me out of stepping outside to beat the shit out of the teens shooting off fireworks.
I have a three week old, a two year old, and a four year old, all are scared and crying. Fuck this.

my condolences, seriously.

why not take them to a window and point out the fireworks to them instead?

It happens to the best of us. Luckily my two year old can sleep through almost anything.

Let 'em be. If they carry on too long, call the cops. It sucks, I've been there. It sounds like Baghdad in my neighborhood.

one of our 3 dogs is seriously not happy with all the fireworks here.

Apparently, quite a few of my neighbors are ignoring the standing "no fireworks" clause in the deed restrictions of our master plan community. And yes, I've got small children trying to sleep as well.
As I typed that last sentence, shrapnel from some fireworks smacked my back fence and scared the crap out of my dog. I'm going to be pissed if there's debris on my truck in the morning.

Eh, you're not an old man until you go to sleep before midnight on NYE. If you're still up being annoyed by the fireworks, you're still young.

Call the cops. It's what you pay taxes for.

We're in the county. It's not a law, just a deed restriction. The Sheriff's Office can't enforce it.

Got it. We're in the county (Travis) so fireworks are legal. Sounds like a war zone out there, but my kids are old enough now that they're still up.

Fort Bend here. I wish Richmond would go ahead and annex us, but the MUD has to be paid off first. That'll take another 20 years.

Also, when I was a firefighter in Westlake, it was inevitable every July 4th/NYE that someone would ignore the fireworks ban, shoot off some fireworks, and ignite something. Always "fun" nights.

I realized about an hour am getting old. It's not even 11 and I am fighting to stay awake.

oh man. Fuck that shit. I've seen too many fires started that way.

Our idiot neighbors stopped a little while ago. No kids for us but the dog hasn't left my side all night.

In Manhattan there are the 'official' fireworks in Central Park - they go from midnight until 12:10 in the New Year. Scares the crap out of the cats. After that, we get some residuals from Queens (can hear them a bit) and somewhere on Riverside Drive, although that hasn't started yet. Still, we're in the back of our building, so not much penetrates. Except the helicopters turning around over our building (74th and Amsterdam) to go and shoot the Times Square nonsense. And on Thanksgiving the balloons ... wake me at 8AM why dontcha?

But don't you love America and the gregorian calendar?

You're not the only one, buddy. It's 11 and it sounds like a fucking battlefield outside. Not conducive to 2 year old or pregnant wife sleep.
I remember piccolo Petes, sparklers, and those spinning flower things. When the fuck did everyone get mortar rounds, or start thinking it's cool to blow them off in otherwise quiet neighborhoods?
At least I've got beer. Cheers and good luck, man.

I know the feeling and hate new year's and independence day for this reason. Drunk rednecks with explosives not 10 feet from cars, mine included, and not 50 from trees and houses is not a good combination. But my skinny white ass is not about to confront them. I've tried calling the cops before but never get through because they're too busy.

Im on the county line of Arapahoe County and Denver County. Legally I can light fireworks on my property but if they were to cross the street I'd be in trouble. It Always bugs me because I have insomniac tendencies so that doesn't help. It sucks that in Arapahoe County fireworks are legal so I can't do anything about it
